What is considered a dental emergency?
The definition of a true dental emergency can vary from dentist to dentist, but we define it as any dental situation that requires immediate treatment to save a tooth, alleviate pain, treat an infection, or stop uncontrolled bleeding in the mouth. Then again, if you just chipped a tooth and your wedding is this weekend, that can be an emergency, too! We’re here to help when you need us the most.

How do I stop my gums from bleeding?
It’s possible that bleeding gums are a one-time result of flossing or brushing too vigorously. However, chronically bleeding gums can signal that something bigger is going on. If your gums won’t stop bleeding, schedule an appointment right away. In the meantime, try holding a small ice pack against your gums or using a warm salt water rinse.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?
If you lost consciousness or are suffering from any other serious injuries, visit the emergency room and get treated for those first. After that, if your tooth is still in one piece, pick it up by the crown (don’t touch the root) and rinse it off under running water. Gently place it back into the socket and call us right away to let us know what happened. The sooner you seek treatment, the better your chances of saving your tooth!

Are dental emergencies covered under insurance?
It depends on the dental insurance plan you have. Some plans will cover the cost of the emergency but charge a deductible or co-pay. Others will pay until a certain point and you’ll pay the rest out of pocket. Our team is happy to help you understand your coverage. We also offer a VIP savings plan that we’d love to tell you about!
