Do you grind your teeth?

Have you ever woken up with a sore jaw and a headache only to realize your teeth are aching too? It’s not a great way to start the day, but it’s a common problem that a lot of people deal with. It’s called bruxism, often referred to as tooth grinding, and it’s more common than you might think. Around 8% of adults and 15% of teenagers grind their teeth.

There are many things that can cause teeth grinding. Stress, sleep disorders, and even certain medications can make you more likely to grind your teeth. Sometimes, it’s just because of the way your teeth are shaped. No matter the cause, this problem requires immediate treatment to reduce its impact on your overall health.

At Hildreth Dental, we’re here to help. We’ll help you break the habit of grinding your teeth, ease any jaw pain, and overall guide you towards better dental health. Don’t let bruxism hold you back any longer – contact us to learn more about your options.

The effects of tooth grinding

Teeth grinding is a common problem, but what are the effects on your teeth?

  • Jaw damage and pain
  • Chipped or cracked teeth, crowns, or bridge
  • Worn tooth enamel
  • Tension headaches
  • Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)
  • Sleep disorders like sleep apnea

Teeth grinding is something that should be taken seriously and addressed as soon as possible. At Hildreth Dental, we understand the unique needs and concerns of each patient and will work with you to find the right bruxism treatment.

Treatments for teeth grinding

There are several options for teeth grinding, and the best one for you will depend on your specific situation.

Night guards

Night guards are custom-fit to your mouth and worn at night to help prevent grinding. They can also help ease any jaw pain you might be experiencing. If you grind your teeth during sleep, we can make you a custom night guard to alleviate bruxism and treat and prevent negative symptoms. Our night guards are designed to be resistant yet flexible so you can be perfectly comfortable while you sleep.

Stress management

If stress is a factor, your dentist may recommend therapy or meditation to help you relax. If you have a sleep disorder, you may need to see a specialist to help you sleep better. In some cases, we may also suggest certain medications to help relax your jaw muscles.

Restorative procedures

If your teeth are severely damaged from grinding, you may need to have a restorative procedure done. Bonding and crowns are some common treatment options to repair the damage caused by excessive grinding.

We’ll develop a treatment strategy to help you get your smile back. We know every patient is different, and we’ll collaborate with you to ensure all your requirements are fulfilled.
